Gautambhai Desai Donates High Capacity RO Plant to Nanivahiyal Boys Hostel Ensuring Access to Pure Drinking Water for Students

The students of the Kumar Hostel in Nanivahiyal, Dharampur, now have access to safe and purified drinking water following the inauguration of a state of the art Reverse Osmosis water treatment plant. This significant infrastructure upgrade was made possible through the generous contribution of Gautambhai Desai, a prominent philanthropist based in Surat and a distinguished alumnus of the Nanivahiyal school. The RO plant was donated in the sacred memory of his late mother, Sumitraben Desai, representing a heartfelt tribute to her values of service and compassion. With a total project cost amounting to one lakh sixty five thousand and two hundred rupees, this facility is designed to meet the daily hydration needs of the hostel residents, thereby significantly reducing the risk of waterborne diseases and improving overall public health within the campus.

During the formal handover ceremony, an emotional Gautambhai Desai shared his personal connection with the institution, noting that his formative years were spent as a student in these very halls. He vividly recalled the logistical challenges and hardships he and his peers faced during their hostel life, particularly the lack of basic amenities like consistent access to clean drinking water. Driven by these memories and the upbringing provided by his mother, he decided to channel his resources toward an initiative that would provide immediate and long term relief to the current generation of students. It was also noted that this is not his first contribution to his alma mater, as he had previously provided substantial financial assistance for the construction of the new high school building in Nanivahiyal, demonstrating his ongoing commitment to rural education.

The event was presided over by Shailesh Patel, the Principal of Nanivahiyal High School and an elected member of the District Panchayat, who delivered the welcome address. He praised the donor for his magnanimity and highlighted that for students living in a hostel environment, health is the foundation of academic success. He emphasized that by securing a source of pure water, the donor has provided a gift of health that will benefit hundreds of students for years to come. The Principal also noted that such acts of returning to one’s roots and supporting local institutions serve as a powerful inspiration for the current students, showing them the importance of social responsibility and gratitude.

The ceremony also featured an insightful motivational session by Nishaben Desai, who addressed the students on the importance of academic excellence and personal discipline. She specifically reached out to the students of Grade 10 and Grade 12 who are currently preparing for their upcoming board examinations, encouraging them to approach their studies with confidence and a clear vision for the future. Complementing this, Joint Secretary Kantaben Patel expressed her formal thanks to the Desai family while also imparting a practical lesson to the students about resource management. She urged the youngsters to use the newly installed RO plant wisely and emphasized the importance of water conservation, reminding them that clean water is a precious resource that should never be wasted.

Community leaders and parents present at the event expressed their deep satisfaction with the new facility. Dilipbhai Patel, President of the Parents Association, remarked that the students of the Nanivahiyal hostel are fortunate to receive support from such dedicated donors. He noted that while the government provides basic support, it is the intervention of successful alumni and philanthropists that brings modern physical facilities to rural hostels, bridging the gap between urban and rural educational experiences. The presence of other dignitaries, including Datteshbhai Bhatt, Secretary of the Dakshin Gujarat Pachat Varg Seva Mandal, and retired teacher Naranbhai Patel, added to the significance of the occasion, underscoring a collective community effort toward student welfare.

As the RO plant began its operation, the joy among the hostel students was palpable. Access to chilled and purified water is often taken for granted in cities, but in the rural heartland of Dharampur, it represents a major upgrade in the quality of daily life. This initiative by a former student serves as a shining example of how personal success can be leveraged for communal good. The Dakshin Gujarat Pachat Varg Seva Mandal, which manages the hostel, has pledged to ensure the regular maintenance of the plant so that the students continue to reap the benefits of this donation. The event concluded with a sense of hope, reinforcing the idea that when alumni look back and give back, the entire educational ecosystem thrives.
