Massive Leopard Spotted in Broad Daylight at Bigri Village: Panic Grips Bilimora as Forest Dept. Sets Trap

Leopard Terror in Bigri: Residents of Bigri village are living in constant fear after a large leopard was seen wandering through local farms on Sunday morning; Forest Department deploys a cage to capture the predator.

An atmosphere of sheer dread and anxiety has engulfed Bigri village near Bilimora after a massive leopard was spotted roaming freely during broad daylight this Sunday. The presence of a predatory animal so close to the busy Coastal Highway has raised serious safety concerns for the local community. Responding to the urgent situation, the Forest Department has initiated a high-priority operation to trap the leopard before any human-animal conflict occurs.

Panic at 11:45 AM: Cattle Scurry as Predator Emerges

The terrifying incident unfolded around 11:45 AM on Sunday in the Dadhora Faliya area of Bigri village. A local farmer, Hiteshbhai Ratanji, was tending to his orchard when he noticed sudden agitation and a stampede-like situation among his cattle. To his horror, Hiteshbhai witnessed a full-grown, majestic leopard passing through his farm just meters away.

Shocked by the sight of the leopard in the middle of the day, the farmer immediately alerted the authorities. Snehalbhai Patel, a member of the Gram Panchayat, quickly informed the Forest Department about the predator’s presence in the heart of the village.

Forest Department Swings into Action: Cage Deployed

Acting swiftly on the instructions of Round Forester Ankitaben Patel, a specialized rescue team arrived at the spot. By Sunday evening, a heavy iron cage was strategically placed in Hiteshbhai Patel’s orchard, where the leopard was last seen.

To lure the leopard into the trap, the team has placed live poultry as bait inside the cage. Forest officials are also conducting a thorough search of the surrounding areas to track the leopard’s movements through its pugmarks.

Why Are Leopards Moving Toward Human Settlements?

The Gandevi region, with its dense vegetation near the Ambika, Kaveri, and Venganiya rivers, along with the 180-hectare forest of Gandeva village, provides a natural habitat for wildlife. However, the current sugarcane and grass harvesting season is a major factor driving animals toward residential areas:

  • Loss of Cover: As crops are harvested, the natural hiding spots for leopards disappear.
  • Search for Prey: Displaced from their territory, leopards venture into orchards and farms in search of domestic animals.
