Black SUV Tragedy in Mohangam: 10-Year-Old Girl Killed, Two Injured in New Year Accident

Mohangam SUV Accident Kills 10-Year-Old Girl A tragic road accident in Mohangam village near Bhilad in Valsad district has cast a dark shadow over the very beginning of the New Year. What was meant to be a day of devotion and prayer turned into an unimaginable tragedy when a speeding black SUV mowed down three members of the same family returning from a religious visit. The horrifying incident claimed the life of a 10-year-old innocent girl, while two other family members sustained serious injuries. The accident has sent shockwaves across Mohangam, Bhilad, and Daman, leaving residents grieving and angry over reckless driving.

According to detailed information available, the victims belong to a family residing in the Daman Chali area, where they earn their livelihood through daily wage masonry work. On January 1, marking the start of the New Year, the family visited the revered Shehenshawali Dargah located on the hilltop of Mohangam Bhardarvada, a site frequently visited by devotees. The family had arrived with faith and hope, unaware that the day would end in irreversible loss.

At around 12:30 pm, after completing their prayers, the family began descending the hill road on foot to return home. The narrow road near the dargah parking area is commonly used by both pedestrians and vehicles, requiring drivers to exercise extreme caution. However, in this case, tragedy struck when a white-colored SUV (XUV) bearing registration number ending in 0982 suddenly emerged from the dargah parking area at high speed.

The SUV was allegedly being driven by Makboolwali Ullah Sheikh in a rash and negligent manner. Witnesses stated that the vehicle was moving at an uncontrollably high speed despite the crowded and sensitive location. Within moments, the speeding SUV struck three pedestrians—Aafreen Sheikh, Zainab Shanu, and Gulab Shanu—who were walking along the roadside after their dargah visit.

The impact of the collision was devastating. All three victims were thrown violently onto the road, creating panic and chaos among nearby devotees and locals. The most severe injuries were suffered by 10-year-old Aafreen Sadam Sheikh, who sustained critical head injuries. The sight of the injured child lying motionless left onlookers horrified.

In the immediate aftermath of the accident, the SUV driver himself transported all three injured victims to the government hospital in Daman. Despite efforts by medical staff, young Aafreen’s condition deteriorated rapidly. After a brief struggle for life, the child succumbed to her injuries during treatment. Her untimely death has left her family shattered beyond words.

The other two injured family members, Zainab Shanu and Gulab Shanu, were reported to be in serious condition. Due to the severity of their injuries, doctors referred them to Vinoba Bhave Civil Hospital in Silvassa for advanced medical treatment. As of the latest updates, both victims remain under close medical observation, battling for recovery.

The incident sparked widespread outrage and grief among devotees present at Mohangam hill. Many questioned how such reckless driving could occur in an area frequented by families, children, and elderly devotees. The narrow hill road and heavy foot traffic make it essential for vehicles to adhere strictly to speed limits, a rule that was allegedly ignored in this case.

Bhilad Police have registered a formal case and initiated a detailed investigation into the accident. The complaint has been filed by Sadam Hussain Ale Hasan Saiyed, aged 32, a resident of Daman originally from Uttar Pradesh. Based on his statement, police have booked the SUV driver under relevant sections for causing death due to negligence and reckless driving.

Police sources confirmed that steps are being taken to arrest the accused driver and seize the SUV involved in the fatal accident. Preliminary investigation indicates that excessive speed and violation of traffic norms on the hill road directly led to the tragic outcome. Authorities have also emphasized that such roads require strict enforcement of speed restrictions to prevent similar incidents.

The body of the deceased child has been sent for postmortem examination, while the injured continue to receive treatment in Silvassa. The loss of a young life has deeply affected both Daman and the Mohangam region, with locals expressing sorrow, anger, and calls for stricter traffic control near religious and tourist locations.

What should have been a sacred and joyous New Year visit turned into a nightmare for one family. The death of a 10-year-old girl due to a black SUV accident in Mohangam has once again highlighted the deadly consequences of reckless driving and the urgent need for accountability, enforcement, and road safety awareness.
