Child Marriage Free India Campaign Launched at Pipalkhed: Legal Awareness Seminar Held [Social Awareness]
Legal Guidance Given to Villagers at Pipalkhed Seminar A significant step toward social reform and legal awareness was taken at Pipalkhed village in Vansda taluka of Navsari district, where a special seminar was organized under the “Child Marriage Free India” campaign. The program was jointly conducted by the Navsari District Legal Services Authority and the Vansda Taluka Legal Services Committee with the aim of spreading awareness at the grassroots level. The seminar witnessed active participation from villagers, reflecting a growing willingness within rural society to address and eliminate the deep-rooted social evil of child marriage.
During the seminar, legal experts and social workers highlighted the harmful effects of child marriage and explained its serious legal consequences. Navsari panel advocate Varshaben Raval and Vansda panel advocate Sanjaybhai Gamit addressed the gathering and provided detailed information about the provisions of the Child Marriage Prohibition Act. They clarified that child marriage is not just a social malpractice but a punishable criminal offence, carrying strict penalties including imprisonment and fines. The speakers urged villagers to understand the law and ensure that no child’s future is destroyed due to ignorance or social pressure.
The seminar also focused on child protection and welfare. Social Security Assistant Harishbhai Sapta explained various government schemes related to child welfare and protection. He emphasized that early marriage has severe negative effects on the physical, mental, and emotional health of children. He also guided villagers on how needy individuals can access free legal aid through the Legal Services Committee, ensuring that justice is accessible to everyone regardless of financial status.
To strengthen community-level vigilance, PLVs Pushpaben Gamit and Royal Patel informed villagers about important helpline numbers and reporting mechanisms. They appealed to the audience to immediately inform authorities if they come across any instance of child marriage in their area. The speakers stressed that protecting children is a shared responsibility of society and that timely reporting can prevent lifelong suffering. Education, they said, is the strongest tool to secure children’s futures, and adherence to the legally prescribed age of marriage is a moral and civic duty.
The event also saw the presence of Navsari District BJP General Secretary Ganpatbhai Mahla, who appreciated the initiative and supported the government’s efforts to eradicate child marriage. He noted that with the expansion of education in rural areas, such harmful practices are gradually declining. Local leaders including Pipalkhed community leader Kamleshbhai Mahla and former Vansda Taluka Panchayat Deputy Sarpanch Dashrathbhai Bhoyade encouraged villagers to actively participate in awareness efforts and become ambassadors of social change within their communities.
Administrative support was assured by Pipalkhed Sarpanch Kishorbhai Mahla and Talati-cum-Mantri Ankitaben Patel, who stated that the local administration stands firmly with villagers in preventing child marriage. Villagers responded positively to the seminar and collectively took a pledge to oppose child marriage in all forms. Women, in particular, showed keen interest in understanding legal provisions and welfare schemes, highlighting their growing role in safeguarding children’s rights.
Although awareness has increased, speakers acknowledged that due to lack of information and deep-rooted customs, isolated incidents of child marriage still occur in remote areas of Vansda taluka. In this context, the initiative taken by the Legal Services Committee was described as timely and essential. Such seminars, it was emphasized, help instill both awareness and legal accountability, ensuring that fear of the law and understanding of rights go hand in hand.
Towards the end of the seminar, villagers were given the opportunity to raise questions and share concerns. Legal experts addressed these queries on the spot, clearing doubts related to marriage laws, reporting procedures, and child protection mechanisms. Youth from Pipalkhed village also expressed their willingness to support the campaign by spreading awareness through digital platforms and social media, indicating a positive shift in mindset among the younger generation.
The seminar at Pipalkhed sent out a strong message that child marriage can only be eliminated through a combination of education, legal awareness, and community participation. The collective efforts of legal authorities, local leaders, and villagers are gradually increasing legal literacy in rural areas. Such initiatives are laying the foundation for a society where children are allowed to grow, learn, and dream freely without the burden of premature marriage.
