Pardi Colleges Host National Conference On Gig Economy Challenges And Opportunities

In a significant move to bridge the gap between traditional academic learning and the rapidly evolving modern job market, a National Conference was recently organized in Pardi, Gujarat. The joint initiative by N.K. Desai Science and Commerce College and J.P. Pardiwala Arts and Commerce College focused on the theme “Shaping the Future of Work: Gig Economy.” This academic gathering brought together educational stalwarts, industry leaders, and researchers to deliberate on the revolutionary changes occurring in global employment patterns and their specific impact on the Indian economic landscape.

The concept of the Gig Economy has gained immense momentum in recent years, especially with the rise of digital platforms. It refers to an economic system characterized by short-term contracts or freelance work as opposed to permanent jobs. In this setup, individuals work on a project-to-project basis, often serving as independent contractors or delivery partners rather than traditional employees. While this model offers unparalleled flexibility and the freedom to choose one’s working hours, the conference highlighted that it also presents significant challenges. For instance, workers in the Gig Economy often lack standard benefits such as pensions, provident funds (PF), and health insurance, and they frequently deal with irregular income streams.

The National Conference featured Prasad Gangavkar, the Founder and CMD of Elcom Future Tech Limited, as the keynote speaker. Mr. Gangavkar provided deep insights into how the synergy between emerging technologies and the Gig Economy is fundamentally reshaping future careers. He emphasized that as digital transformation accelerates, the boundaries of traditional workplaces are dissolving, making way for a more fluid and skill-based employment market. He advised students and young professionals to focus on continuous skill upgrading to stay relevant in this project-based economy.

The academic event also benefited from the expertise of other distinguished speakers, including Dr. J.M. Nayak, the former Principal of Shah N.H. Commerce College in Valsad, Amit Mehta, CEO of Maa Foundation, and Limesh Parekh, MD of Enjay IT Solutions. These experts shared their perspectives on the changing nature of work, focusing on the need for a new regulatory framework that can provide security to gig workers without stifling the innovation and flexibility that the model provides.

The conference served as a major platform for academic research, witnessing participation from a total of 63 researchers and professionals. A total of 34 high-level research papers were presented during the technical sessions, covering various facets of the Gig Economy, ranging from its socio-economic impact to the legal challenges faced by independent contractors. After a rigorous evaluation process by the panel of experts, six research papers were selected as the “Best Papers” and their authors were honored for their outstanding contribution to the field.

The technical sessions were guided by Dr. Gaurang Rami and Dr. Raju Rathod, who served as chairpersons and panelists. The event commenced with a welcoming address by Dr. Gangaben Patel and concluded with a vote of thanks by Dr. Tapansinh Parmar. The successful execution of this National Conference was made possible through the dedicated efforts of Dr. Dipesh Shah, Director of N.K. Desai College, along with Dr. Shivani Acharya, Dr. Satvinder Kaur, Dr. Bindu Trivedi, and their entire organizing team. Hemant Desai, President of the Pardi Education Society, extended his heartfelt congratulations to the team for organizing such a timely and relevant discussion.

As the world moves towards the year 2026, the discussions held during this conference in Pardi are more relevant than ever. The Gig Economy is no longer a peripheral part of the market; it is becoming a central pillar of the global workforce. By hosting this National Conference, the colleges in Pardi have ensured that their students and the local academic community are well-prepared for the future of work. The consensus among the experts was clear: while the Gig Economy offers great opportunities for entrepreneurship and autonomy, it requires a balanced approach to ensure the welfare and long-term security of the workforce.
